Beclin-1 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the BECN1 gene.^[1]^[2]

Beclin-1 is also known as autophagy-related gene (Atg) 6. Beclin-1 and its binding partner class III phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3K), also named Vps34, are required for the initiation of the formation of the autophagasome in autophagy.

Interactions

BECN1 has been shown to interact with GOPC,^[3] Bcl-2^[1] and BCL2L2.^[4]
